Education on Sustainability & Innovation

Collaboration between Hongik University and Lineapelle

‘K Leather Creativity’ is a special educational initiative launched in 2019 through a collaboration between Hongik University and Lineapelle.

The program was created with the goal of raising awareness and educating design students on key topics such as the sustainability of Italian leather, the circular economy model, and the tanning production process.

The program led to the development of 24 student projects, which were selected and exhibited at the Lineapelle Fair. These diverse creations ranged from clothing and accessories to functional products, each showcasing students’ unique design perspectives.

During the second and third semesters, the program shifted to a fully online format due to the global pandemic. Despite the challenges, students actively participated in a series of webinars and virtual workshops, continuing their deep dive into the sustainability of leather, circular design strategies, and the characteristics of tanned leather materials.

As part of the program, students were encouraged to work with leftover raw leather, applying principles of recycling, reusability, reinterpretation, recreation, reinvention, and reconnection. These concepts inspired a wide range of innovative and sustainable design projects, demonstrating the powerful intersection of education, creativity, and responsible material use.
